Forming of the blank blade from
a metal bar of cramp steel
The modern forge
worker uses a machine that stamps
the red hot metal with a pressure
of various tons with precision and
dexterity of no comparison. This
profession remains partially manual
and still demands today the same
know-how, skills and resistance
as the forge workers of the olden
days.

Heat treatment has the objective
with the mechanical properties of
the steel. Heat treatment demands
from the worker a vast experience
in order to respect the temperature
and the period of time necessary
for heating.
The quality of the heat treatment
depends on a large number of factors,
such as the cut, flexibility, resistance
to corrosion and more generally
the quality of the finished product.

This step consists of shaping the
cutting edge of the blade.
The ancestral methods remain
today a reality for professional
cutlery. We are one of the last
companies to conserve this know-how
and this enables us to have unique
products that answer to the most
demanding professional requirements.

This is carried out in successive
steps with finer and finer abrasives
in order to obtain the shine on
the steel.
Different finishing is possible,
from a mirror polish aspect to
a dull brushed finish.

Sharpening: This step is carried
out on a grinding wheel to give
the cutting edge to the knife.
Serration: Shaping of the serration
on the blade is carried out on
a very fine stone and sprayed
with water to avoid scorching
the steel which could lead to
breaking and a loss of the value
of the heat treatment process.
LAMOUROUX must ensure a guarantee
of first class quality of the
knife with a long life span of
the cutting edge.

This is a delicate and minute operation
that consists of assembling cutlery
heads or blades on to handles with
a ferrule or a penny ferrule. Each
of these elements is calibrated
to the other.
Assembling with hot glue is reserved
to the Plexiglas and nylon ranges
for an optimal use in the dishwasher
with a guaranteed life span and
an irreproachable finish.
Assembling with sand, cement and glue is reserved to the high-class range
in metal respecting the silversmith
tradition in assembling.
